What Makes Our School Unique?
West End Middle School is located at 3529 West End Avenue in Davidson County, Nashville, Tennessee. The school sits at the edge of Elmington Park off West End Avenue and Bowling Avenue. It is located in an affluent residential community where the majority of homes costs upwards of half a million dollars. Designed by Donald Southgate, a prominent Nashville architect of the time, the school’s red brick building is one of the best examples of Colonial Revival and Georgian Revival style of architecture, which is characterized by symmetry and a strong emphasis on a central front door and cupola. The building has a tower that is approximately 150 feet tall and houses a thousand pound bell that chimes sweetly at the top of each hour. West End Middle School strives to involve all stakeholders in the education of students. We truly believe that all students are capable learners and must feel safe and secure in school to successfully achieve at an optimal level. Excellence in education is what West End Middle School strives to achieve. Our goal is to awaken the intelligence of students and teach them to recognize relationships between school and the world outside school by combining knowledge, experience, community service, and critical observation. Additionally, we want to provide students with a high quality educational program for developing, improving, and applying knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the diverse world in which we live. The facilities at West End Middle School recently underwent a $7.6 million improvement. A new central heating and cooling system replaced the old furnace that heated the school and the window air conditioners that cooled the rooms. Well over a million dollars was spent on updating the electrical system and the infrastructure for technology. Some of the technology updates include cameras for safety, flat screen TVs in high traffic areas for announcements, a modern computer lab, and a new sound system. All the windows were replaced, and the roof was repaired.

Members are part of the private nonprofit PENCIL Foundation whose mission is to create and cultivate partnerships that enhance learning, promote career success, and improve the quality of life in Nashville.
