Student-View Scholarship Program:

This program is offering one $4,000, two $1,000, and eight $500 scholarships.  There are no minimum SAT/ACT scores or GPAs, no essays required, and no application fees.  Students must simply visit www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in their area.  The scholarship winners will be drawn at random and the deadline to apply is April 22, 2012.  (THIS IS A VERY EASY WAY TO GET MONEY!)

 

Scholarship for Senior CTE Students:

Each year the Division of Career and Technical Education of the State Department of Education awards a $500 scholarship toward the postsecondary education of two career and technical education students (one male and one female) who demonstrate achievement in a career that is not traditional for the student’s gender.  The application is available by emailing Mrs. Delano-Bateman (Allison.delano@mnps.org).  Applications are due by May 1, 2012.


Ascend Federal Credit Union Scholarship:

This $1,000 scholarship is available to graduating seniors (or higher) who are members of Ascend Federal Credit Union, and plan to enroll or prove enrollment as a full-time student at an accredited college, university, technical or trade school in the next academic year.  The application is due by March 1, 2012 and the entire application process is online at www.ascendfcu.org.


Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.:

Four $500 scholarships will be awarded to qualified applicants.  Applicants must be an African-American male or female, a high school senior, be accepted or plan to attend a 4-year college or university, be active in school, church, and/or community, and have a minimum 2.8 GPA.  The application is available from Mrs. Delano-Bateman (Allison.delano@mnps.org) and must be postmarked by March 5, 2012.


Beta Theta Pi Men of Principle Scholarship:

This scholarship is available to any graduating male seniors who are attending UT Knoxville for the Fall 2012 semester.  It is a single, one time, $1000 scholarship for tuition or books.  The application can be found online at http://betavols.org/mpsonline.php or by seeing Mrs. Delano-Bateman (room 128).  Students should fill this out as soon as possible to be considered, but the absolute deadline is August 14, 2012.

Balanced Man Scholarship:

This scholarship is for graduating male seniors who will be enrolling at UT Knoxville in fall 2012.  There is no obligation for winners to join Sigma Phi Epsilon (or any other fraternity at UT), but it is a good way for students to meet current UT students.  The 1st place award is $1,500, 2nd place is $1,000, and 3rdplace is $500.  There will also be four $500 awards to students who greatly excel in one of the four categories: Leader, Scholar, Athlete, Gentleman.  Students can fill out the application online at www.tnalpha.com or see Mrs. Delano-Bateman for a paper copy (room 128).  Questions can be directed to SPEtnalpha@gmail.com.


Metropolitan Nashville Retired Teachers Association Scholarship:

The Metropolitan Nashville Retired Teachers Association will award $1,000 scholarships to four high school graduates who have chosen teaching as a career and will enter college this fall to begin their training for a career in the teaching profession.  Each high school may only have one applicant (must be a senior), so interested students should talk to Mrs. Delano-Bateman (room 128 or Allison.delano@mnps.org) for the application as soon as possible.  The application must be received by March 16, 2012, by 5pm.

The Shepherd Scholarship Foundation:

This foundation helps fund college for students and is looking for students who are in the top ten percent of their graduating class.  Questions should be addressed to shepherdscholarshipfoundation@gmail.com and applications are available from Mrs. Delano-Bateman (room 128).

Stan and Thelma Plumlee Scholarship:

For this $8,000 scholarship, applicants must be associated with the manufactured or modular housing industry to be considered  For example, living in a manufactured or modular home, or working in the manufactured or modular industry, or by having a close relative who works in the manufactured or modular industry (such as mother/father, brother/sister, aunt/uncle, or grandparents).  All information is at http://tnmha.org/TMHA2/html.pages/Scholarship/Scholarship_information.htm


The Kiwanis Club of Madison Scholarships:

This scholarship is open to any graduating senior with a 37115 zip code or who is a member of a Kiwanis Key Club at their school.  Students should have been accepted or are eligible to be accepted without conditions to a college, university, or vocational school, or have served in the community/school in a volunteer capacity.  Students must complete and return their applications to Mrs. Delano-Bateman by March 5, 2012.  Applications are available by emailing Mrs. Delano-Bateman (Allison.delano@mnps.org).

ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarships:

This scholarship is named for the first African American to walk in space and is available to 2012 graduating high school seniors.  Four scholarships for two males and two females ($5,000 each) will be awarded to two African-American and two Hispanic students.  The deadline for submissions is April 2, 2012.  Students should apply through the Council of the Great City Schools website at www.cgcs.org.

Federal Employee and Retired Employee Scholarships: 

This is a scholarship for the children, grandchildren, great-grand, step children, step grandchildren and step great-grand children of retired and presently employed federal employees.  The application period is now open.  Please see the following link for more details:

The Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program:

This program recognizes and rewards young volunteers (ages 6-18) who help make their communities a better place.  Nominations for this award will be accepted Feb 1-March 15, 2012.  Anyone can nominate and more information is available at https://www.act.org/kohls/

Sylvan Street Baptist Church:

This $500 scholarship is available to a graduating senior attending high school in the Nashville community.  Students must have a 3.0 minimum GPA and prove financial need.  The full application details available by emailing Mrs. Delano-Bateman (allison.delano@mnps.org) and the application packet must be received by March 5, 2012.

Nashville Mayor’s Youth Council – NPSA & USA Funds Scholarship Contest:
This scholarship is for students who will graduate in 2012, have been accepted or plan on enrolling in a postsecondary institution in the summer or fall of 2012 as a first time freshman, have a 3.0 GPA, and have a permanent residence within Nashville’s city limits.  Applications are due by March 19th, 2012 and are available by contacting Mrs. Delano-Bateman (allison.delano@mnps.org).  For questions, please contact Brandon Hill at 615-983-6869 or email nashvillemyc@yahoo.com.

Nordstrom Scholarship:

This scholarship is looking for 11th grade students. Nordstrom is excited to award $10,000 scholarships to 80 outstanding high school students and help them achieve their dreams of going to college. The Nordstrom Scholarship recognizes students across the country for their exceptional scholastic achievement and community involvement. Summer Institute - Scholars Program at Middle TN State University (MTSU):

The Scholars Academy Program at Middle Tennessee State University is currently accepting applications for its Summer Institute. The Summer Institute, to be held July 8th -August 11th, is a summer bridge program that helps prepare incoming freshman for first year experiences.

 The Scholars Academy Summer Institute is a five-week residential program designed to provide students with an opportunity for career exploration by working with various MTSU colleges and departments in the surrounding community. Students participating in the program are housed on the MTSU campus for the duration of the Summer Institute, attend two freshman-level courses (at no cost), and take part in team-building exercises, leadership training, the summer reading program, and service learning projects.

In particular, the Scholars Academy Summer Institute seeks to enhance the freshman learning experience by providing the following:

Academic Impact

· Better preparation for college level general education courses.

· The expectations of college-level research and data analysis.

· On-site tutoring and mentoring.

· Student advising and course selection.

Social Impact

· Greater awareness of the benefits and challenges of independence.

· Greater awareness of interpersonal strengths and challenges.

· Increased opportunities to engage collegiate students in “real” conversations about college.

Long Term Impact

· Increased retention and graduation rates of minority students at MTSU.
· Earlier identification of major/career “mis-matches” and subsequent educational adjustments.
· Increased satisfaction with major and career selection.

Qualifications:

Strong interest in attending Middle Tennessee State University
First generation college student preferred
Currently receive free or reduced lunch
All grade point averages and ACT scores will be considered

All students who attend the Scholars Academy must commit to attending MTSU and remain an active member of the Scholars Academy.
