ELL Biology/ ELL Physical Science

I was born in Nashville, TN. I attended McGavock High School and graduated in 1998. Next, I attended Middle Tennessee State University and earned a Bachelor in Biology with a minor in Chemistry in May of 2003. I specialized in animal science while completing this program of study. After completing my first four years of school, I realized that teaching was my passion. Thus, I moved to Johnson City, TN and completed a Master of Arts in Teaching at East Tennessee State University. I am now highly certified in Biology.

While in East Tennessee, I participated in biological courses involving Appalachian flora and fauna. Outside of academics, I enjoy hiking, wildlife conservation, travel, and bird watching and I hope to begin research in ornithology in the next few years.

In the classroom, I use a variety of educational techniques to assist my students in their academic goals. I believe that students learn in many ways and I use auditory, visual and kinesthetic strategies to explain complex, scientific concepts. Also, I am always willing to assist students individually. Overall, I hope to move each student to observe and appreciate the world around him/ her in logical and reasonable ways.
