Dr. Cole was born and raised in Minnesota, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from St. Olaf College before moving to Galveston, Texas to earn a Ph.D. in Microbiology from The University of Texas Medical Branch.  After postdoctoral work at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Cole spent 16 years as a faculty member at Indiana University School of Medicine, teaching Medical Microbiology to medical students and carrying out research on the human herpesviruses.  After moving to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2001, she earned a Master of Education from Vanderbilt University and began teaching Chemistry at  Antioch High School.
