Social Studies
The Antioch High School Social Studies Department offers a wide range of courses designed to ensure a strong sense of understanding about our country and the world. The specific courses follow Metro Nashville Public School District recommendations and are influenced by college and state requirements. The courses are taught by a diverse group of highly qualified teachers who focus on student achievement by engaging students in the learning process.
Students must earn three social studies credits in order to meet graduation requirements. Typically students will take two semesters of World Geography or World History, two semesters of United States (U.S.) History, and one semester each of U.S. Government and Economics. U.S. History along with U.S. Government and Economics are required courses for graduation. U.S. History students will also take an end-of-course exam that counts as a percentage of their grade. Students enrolled in the English Language Learner (ELL) program are offered World Geography - Sheltered and U.S. History - Sheltered. Several advanced placement and honors courses are offered for students following the rigorous university path to graduation.
