2007 Sam Walton (Walmart) Community Scholarship

This $1,000 one-time scholarship is for high school graduates planning to attend a 4-year college and who are not Walmart employees.  The application deadline is in January of 2008.  Applications are available online at www.walmartfoundation.org.

 

Cargill Community Scholarship Program

This national program will award $1,000 scholarships to 350 seniors in the U.S. who live in a Cargill business community.  Additionally, each recipient’s high school will receive a $200 grant to support the school library.  Students are selected based on academic, civic and  leadership in extracurricular activities.  Program guidelines and applications are available online at www.cargill.com, keyword:  scholarship.  You may also call them at (888)476-9332.

 

Army Emergency Relief (AER)

This program offers financial assistance for undergraduate study to dependent children of Army soldiers (active, retired or deceased).  It is for students that will attend an institution accredited by the U.S. Deparment of Education and that is approved for Title IV funds.  Selections are made based primarily on financial need.  You can apply online at www.aerhg.org.

 

American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society’s College Scholarship Program gives young cancer survivors the opportunity to pursue an undergraduate degree from an accredited university.  The award is $1,000.  The deadline to apply is in February.  Application packets are available at www.cancer.org.

 

Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program

One-time awards of $1,500 will be made to 100 seniors who plan to pursue a career in an agriculture-related field.  The application deadline is in February.  Applications are available online at www.monsanto.com or www.nafb.com.

 

Microsoft, Inc. Scholarship Program

The Microsoft Corporation offers various scholarships totaling $500,000 to undergraduate students in the following areas:  General scholarships, Women’s scholarships, Underrepresented Minority scholarships and scholarships for students with disabilities.  You can apply by visiting www.microsoft.com/college.

 

“Dream Deferred Essay Contest" Sponsored by AIC
The American Islamic Congress (AIC) is hosting the "Dream Deferred Essay Contest" on civil rights in the Middle East. The contest offers prizes up to $2,000 and is open to Americans and Middle Easterners under the age of 26. Essays may be submitted in English, Arabic, French or Farsi. The Mckelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship

Available to all high school seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own businesses while in high school.  You must have at least one employee.  The award is up to $10,000 per academic year for 4 years.  Online application due by January 31, 2007.  Please visit www.mckelveyfoundation.org for more information.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The Hispanic Scholarship fund awards scholarships to Latino students based on the following criteria:

1.      Be a graduating high school senior.

2.    Have plans to enroll FULL-TIME in a degree-seeking program at a US accredited institution in the US, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands or Guam in the upcoming academic year.

Community College Transfer Scholarship Program

The Hispanic Scholarship fund awards scholarships to Latino students based on the following criteria:

1.      Be enrolled PART-TIME or FULL-TIME at a community college

2.    Have plans to transfer and enroll FULL-TIME in a degree-seeking program at a four-year US accredited institution in the US, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands or Guam in the upcoming academic year.

The University of Tennessee—Promise Scholarship

Beginning Fall 2007, any student who is admitted and enrolls at the University of Tennessee from one of the eligible high schools (Antioch High School) will receive a scholarship valued at up to $5,800 per year. The Promise Scholarship, combined with the HOPE and other university scholarships, will provide funds to assist with tuition and fees for up to four years (eight semesters) on the Knoxville campus.  You may obtain more information by visiting www.utk.edu.

 

 

 

 

Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) 

The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential.  Students are awarded scholarships based on the following criteria:

1.     Be a graduating high school senior

2.   Be a US citizen or an eligible non-citizen

3.   Have a minimum un-weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale

4.   Demonstrate leadership skills, and a significant financial need (Pell Grant eligible)

The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund

The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) is devoted solely to providing scholarships for Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. APIASF is also the administrator of the Gates Millennium Scholars/APIA, which provides outstanding low-income Asian and Pacific Islander American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline they choose.Visit www.apiasf.org for more information.

United Negro College Fund

The United Negro College Fund awards scholarships to academically-talented African-American students.  To be considered for a UNCF scholarship, you must meet certain basic eligibility requirements:

1.     Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
2. Students must have unmet need as verified by the university financial aid office
3. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA)
